Donate - Giving Back To Build A Stronger Future
Become a part of the Nexstar Legacy Foundation Team and help build a legacy.
The Nexstar Legacy Foundation was created to celebrate and perpetuate the gift of education that Frank Blau has given to so many, and to allow us all to give back through an industry that has been so good to us. Our immediate focus is to provide scholarships for students in the plumbing, HVACR and electrical industries. Your contributions help carry on Frank’s work by allowing the foundation to provide educational opportunities to those who might not otherwise have access to them, and to attract new talent to our industry. Giving to the Nexstar Legacy Foundation does more than provide scholarships. It helps create a strong foundation that will be here for years to come.

Leave A Legacy
Since the Nexstar Legacy Foundation is qualified under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3), donations to us may be deductible to an individual taxpayer or corporate donor. There are two principal ways that you can donate to the Nexstar Legacy Foundation using charitable trusts.
A Charitable Remainder Trust (charitable remainder unitrust or charitable remainder annuity trust) is an irrevocable trust established by you to provide an income stream to your named beneficiary until the termination of the trust. When the trust is terminated, the Nexstar Legacy Foundation then receives the remainder value of the trust. These "split interest" trusts are defined in §664 of the Internal Revenue Code (as amended) and are normally tax-exempt. Normally, the donor may claim a charitable income tax deduction, and may not have to pay an immediate capital gains tax when the charitable remainder trust disposes of the appreciated asset and purchases other property as it diversifies its portfolio of trust property.
With a Charitable Lead Trust, the trust assets are used to make payments, either of a fixed amount (charitable lead annuity trust) or a percentage of trust principal (charitable lead unitrust), to the Nexstar Legacy Foundation during the term of the trust. At the end of the trust term, the remainder of the trust assets can either go back to you or to other beneficiaries named by you (such as your heirs). With this kind of trust, you may sometimes claim a charitable income tax deduction or a gift/estate tax deduction for making a lead trust gift, depending on the type of a charitable lead trust.
Of course, each person’s financial plan is different, and you should consult a tax professional before creating such a trust to benefit the Nexstar Legacy Foundation.
Did you know that you may be able to use your IRA to leave a legacy? If you are 70 ½ years old, you may be able to transfer funds directly to the Nexstar Legacy Foundation without any tax penalties. Click here to find out more: IRA Rollover
On August 5, 2009, The Nexstar Network donated $500 to the Nexstar Legacy Foundation in memory of John MacGregor.
JOHN MACGREGOR REMEMBERED
John Macgregor, founder of MacGregor Plumbing, & Heating of Harbor Springs, Michigan passed away on Thursday, July 23rd. The 74–year–old was well known around Nexstar circles as man of vision, compassion and insightful thinking. In 1962, John, drawn by his passion for skiing, moved from Detroit to the resort community of Harbor Springs where he started a plumbing shop. In January, 1993 John joined Nexstar, only a few months after the organization started. His daughter, Julie Wieman, co–owned and managed the company with John. He was an active leader in many community improvement groups. John is survived by his wife, Joy.
The family recommends memorial donations be made to the Northern Michigan Dyslexia Center of which John was a founding member.

This is truly a benevolent foundation that will carry all our legacies into the future.
